When I was younger I was really in to Marshall Arts, but there was one thing I was struggling with and that was being able to do the splits. After struggling day after day for months with very little progress I eventually decided to speak with one of the black belts at my club.
This guy could do the splits and was the best executer of a round house kick I have ever seen. He recommended a leg stretch machine, although it was a big purchase I decided it was worth the investment. With the stretch machine and some simple tips which I will discuss later I achieved my goal of being able to do the full splits in under 40 days.
Whilst that original leg stretch machine has long since gone and probably belongs in a museum, I’m still huge fan and have tested a lot of them. These stretch machines are not only good for those in martial arts but are great for dancers and gymnasts or anyone who really wants to make big gains in flexibility.
After researching countless stretch machines I found the pro leg stretcher which is available on amazon the best on the market. If you are looking for a whole body stretcher, the Lifespan stretch partner which can also be purchased on amazon the top model. See below for some of the other strech machines that are also good buys. I would stray away from the straps as a lot of them are not worth the money and do very little in helping improve your flexibility.

Pro Leg Stretcher
The Pro Leg Stretcher by TMAS is in my opinion the best leg stretcher around. The first thing you notice when you sit in the stretch machine is the very genrus amount of padding compared to some other models that can be found on the market. It also has a control wheel which is slightly better than a leaver system and allows for a more granular control over the stretch. The good quality durable wheels on the legs allow it roll across even the shaggiest of carpets without any problem.
Setup is simple and straight forward and should be no problem for even the most basic DIYer.
- The control wheel – A great thing about a control wheel on a machine such as this is that it’s possible to increasing your stretch by increments that are tiny instead of notch levels. Counting the number of wheel rotations you are able to get to will help you keep tabs on the progress that you are making.
- Sturdy build – It is built to last.

Ability of measuringprogress
This machine could have been greatly enhanced if a device for measuring was included to help users in monitoring the stretch degrees they completed on the machine and hence track their progress adequately.

Different types of stretch machines
Leg Stretchers–This type focuses on aiding people to stretch just legs. If it’s important for you to be able to do the splits, then this is the kind of machine you want as it can be used by dancers and martial arts practitioners. Often, splits or leg machine do have a control wheel which allows a person to increase the amount of stretch slowly.
Full body stretchers- This type are a representative of machines targeting broader areas on the body and these include hamstrings, lower back, quadriceps, arms, upper back, calves and much more. It ideally hits each major group of muscle with a stretch that is gentle but effective.
Benefits of Using Stretch Machines
The one advantage of a stretch machine compared to stretching in a class is the fact that a person goes at their own level of comfort without having any pressure for overstretching. Any good instructor for yoga wouldn’t push a person too far but gauging where your limits lie currently can be difficult. Whilst enjoying your home’s privacy and comfort, a person can slowly take their time to improve and deepen their flexibility session by session.
How Stretch Machines Work
The majority of stretch machines work by using a person’s weight in stretching the major groups of muscles. There usually is a seat that is padded and a kneepad for placing the knees on whilst holding a form of handles to the front.
