What is a Ketogenic Diet

The ketogenic diet prompts the body to engage into a process called ketosis, a state of the metabolism during which the body switches from using glucose as its principal source of fuel to fat deposits. Unlike some other popular diets on the market ketogenic diet gives the body limited access to carbs, the component that is transformed by the body into glucose, thus reducing insulin levels in the body and increasing the quantity of fatty acids released from the fat stores of the body. The fatty acids released are transported to the liver where they transform into ketones, that perform the same function as glucose would: provide fuel as the principal source of energy for the body’s cells.

There are several different versions of the ketogenic diet, but what is common to all of them is that they include low-carb, moderate-protein and high-fat dishes and ingredients. Being a system that eliminates carbohydrates almost entirely, the diet is suitable for those suffering from diabetes as well and it has numerous positive health effects on the dieter besides weight loss as well.

Use the above sources to learn as much as possible about the Keto diet and start your journey towards a fitter, healthier body.
