These are the main features of Selecttech 552 dumbbells:

The Easy to Use Dial

Changing the weight setting is easy to do. The dials are well-placed and you can easily see all the different settings.

Weights change in increments of 2.5 lbs for the first 25 lbs, then in 5 lbs increments. This offers a wide range of training variety and optimal personalization

The Elegant Design

Beautiful designs aren’t abundant and that’s all the more reason to appreciate them when we see them.

The colors and sleek design are impeccable, and they reflect well the concepts of power and strength.

Using these beautiful devices in a workout is certainly a plus.

The Grip

This is one of the nice features of the Selecttech 552, it’s made from rubber, the round shape and smooth texture make it easy on the hands.

Newer models have a metal grip with a square section and a rough texture. This is supposed to enhance the grip and make it non-slip, but the roughness can be uncomfortable if you are not wearing workout gloves.

  • Save a lot of space as opposed to a full set of weights
  • It’s easy to change weights by just turning a dial
  • Takes a few seconds to shift weight settings
  • Smart and elegant design
  • The grip is firm and easy on the hands
  • It comes with a 2-year warranty

  • It seems to be a pricey piece of gear
  • It’s a bit wider than the regular dumbbells

What’s so Special About the Selecttech Dumbbells?

This is why we think these dumbbells are worth considering:

Familiar Dumbbell Shape

They look like real dumbbells, as opposed to other models that have modified shapes and feel like exercising with very different gear. The Selecttech are efficient but familiar.

The grip is also designed along the lines of the regular dumbbells, this comes in contrast with other models where you put your hand inside the weights.

Space Economy

They save a lot of space and clutter. Having one gear to replace 15 pairs of different dumbbells and their rack is engineering at its best. This is the ultimate space economy.

Rapid Change of Weights

This is a unique feature for these dumbbells, and it’s one of the main reasons why they’re so popular.

They find a ready application in P90X workouts, and even in regular training, a practical and easy way to change weights is always good.

They can be incorporated into any workout routines, and they’ll give you a chance to upgrade your home workout program.

They Can Be Stored Anywhere

Being just one device, these dumbbells can be put away in a locker, on a shelf, beside the treadmill, or in any other convenient place.

Room for Improvement

There are a few things that we wish were a bit different, these are impressive dumbbells, and if Bowflex could improve these aspects they would be perfect.

Still, we can work around all these matters.

Their Length

These dumbbells are a bit longer than the standard ones we’re all used to. This is especially clear in the shoulder press exercise or a concentration curl, where they inevitably touch.

Bench presses are also a bit more challenging to do, as the muscles don’t get flexed in a full range of motion. This can be avoided by just rotating the dumbbells.

This can also be sorted out by modifying your grip, but it should be pointed out. Hopefully, the manufacturers would work around this issue in the next models.

Their Cost

It’s one of the first things most people notice about the Bowflex Selecttech 552, the big dollars. However, once they do the math, they see that this is an economic alternative.

The other way is owning 15 different dumbbells, plus a big rack to hold all of them. Then, there’s the extra storage space required for that.

We still think that a lower price would make these dumbbells a more attractive item they already are.

The Bowflex Selecttech 552 dumbbells are certainly good pieces of sports equipment. They are great for home use and their quick adjustment option makes them suitable for gyms as well.

We believe that there are many advantages to having a Selecttech at your disposal, the main thing is that one of them equals having 15 different dumbbells plus their storage rack.

We hope this Bowflex Selecttech 552 review has been useful and despite the negatives Bowflex are still one of the best manufactures of adjustable dumbbells on the market.
