Today we get the chance to review the CAP Barbell power rack.
Whilst we have reviewed some other good CAP Barbell products this is the first time reviewing one of their power racks.
Can it live up to it's good reputation of offer solid product at a reasonable price?
Most manufacturers tend to go over the top, focusing on elaborate and robust power racks, and in the process they tend to overlook crucial aspects.
Luckily, this power rack from CAP Barbell goes in an opposite direction – it is sleek, simple and sturdy – a really efficient power rack for a straight forward exercise.
If you looking for a power rack with all the bells and whistles you should take a look at some of the alternative racks in our post on the best squat racks with pull up bars.
Let’s delve deeper and lay out the features of this unique power rack, giving you a first hand account of all the pros and cons that hide behind the seemingly simple look.
At a first glance, the Cap Barbell FM-CB800F lacks any prominent features, but once you get around it you can quickly realize that there’s more than meets the eye. The whole of its effectiveness is centered on the two parallel, vertical steel beams that are connected, top and bottom.
This simple design is modular enough to offer a dose of versatility, with the frame having several holes that allow different positions for the barbell supports. This offers enough variety so that the users can perform several key exercises – barbell squats (front and back), bent over rows, chin ups, pull-ups, etc.
Another important addition is the plate storage. Two opposing plate posts will give you the option of storing several weight plates, neatly and securely. This is great for keeping a tidy workout area and ensuring that everything has its place.
Although simplistic, the build boasts great quality and durability. The steel frame has a 12 and 14 gauge thickness, with important upper cross brace that doubles as a pull up bar.
CAP Barbell also went a step further by adding a variety of details that ensure longevity and an added level of durability. These include a three step powder coating finish, extra reinforcement in form of gussets, as well as capped ends that add a dose of safety and prevent oxidization.
It really gets obvious real fast that this power rack is of the finest manufacture. Without too many unnecessary additions, the company got the chance to focus fully on delivering a durable frame and double their efforts on a smaller scale power rack.
CAP Barbell certainly did develop a well balanced and effective power rack, perfectly suited for those who are looking for a more traditional, straight forward exercise rack. Perfect for home gyms and workout programs like Stronglifts 5x5, this rack provides you with everything you need to have – in a sturdy, well made and balanced final result.
And with an acceptable price tag, it might just be that this power rack is the next logical purchase!
