The first thing to notice is the outer frame. This black, smooth steel frame is a stable and robust support, with a quite unique and stable angle of support.
It contains extra bolt points at the connecting points, and a few hex bolts placed at key points. Without a doubt – this frame is as sturdy as they come. And with its unique matte black color, it is really pleasing to the eye.
The running deck is a story of its own. This part of the TR150 is perhaps slightly more unique than its contemporaries. It is sufficiently wide, if not wider than some of the models we have reviewed previously, and its frame is made of steel as usual.
At its sides are two textured strips for you to step on once the running is done, which adds to safety.
The running belt is also cushioned. This unique feature is not like some of shock absorbing mechanisms we saw on the Proform 905 CST, but it is still as effective. The pressure on the joints and ankles is now a thing of the past. More about it later on.
But the element of XTERRA’s TR150 that catches the eye most quickly, is its neat, large frontal control panel.
Set at a perfect angle and height for almost all users, you’ll have no trouble accessing its features with ease – even at full running speed. It is noticeably smaller than some other control panels we saw previously – yet it still contains all the features you’d want to have from a treadmill such as this one. This particular model also featured highly
Once this is combined with the width and height of the treadmill, you get an extremely stable and durable treadmill. Once you see it in action, you’ll know – there is zero wobbling or shaking with this treadmill.
This is further reflected in the decent and respectable user weight limit. TR150 can support users up to 250 lbs (113 kg). With this you can confidently step up and run as fast as you’d like.
Most fitness users will have no issues here. And when you take into account the cushioned running belt, you’ll know that a natural, soft, and healthy exercise lies ahead.
The dimensions of this treadmill are as follows:
Set up: 63.4” x 28.75” x 51.4”
Folded: 28.5” x 28.75” x 61”
Incline and Adjustability
While we agree that digital inclines of several degrees can really be a game changer, and old school manual incline approach can still work well.
That’s what we get with the TR150.
A choice of three different inclines which are set up with a simple manual mechanism. Just choose your angle and set it up.
When you require a bigger challenge you can make it steeper. But don’t expect a very big difference. You’re biggest challenge will still come from the speed and time.
A lot of its adjustability lies in the range of options that are offered to you through the main user console. Once these are combined with the incline, you can get a very decent variety, and a choice of options that can be effective to many different workout routines.
You can choose your desired speed – it goes from 0.5 to 10 miles per hour – and is chosen with a simple touch on the screen.
It also contains 12 different preset programs which offer you an amazing variety of challenges and different exercise experiences. You can be sure that the running on TR150 will never be a repetitive experience.
One cool feature that is worth mentioning, and a key addition that some other brands failed to include, is the pulse measuring.
Simply hold the handles for a few moments and the LCD display will list your vitals. It is a great way to pay attention to your progress and vitals.
And when we talk about adjustability, we can’t miss on the main feature of TR150 – its folding option. To combine a motorized, robust treadmill and a folding option is no easy task, but XTERRA came through with flying colors.
Once you’re done you can simple pull up the running deck and secure it in the vertical position with a simple pull out mechanism.
This is a key feature for anyone with small spaces – you can bring the gym experience right into your living room. And when the exercise is over, and the treadmill tucked away out of sight, none will be the wiser. A perfect addition!
Console and Programmes
These can add to stability of the user, and also contain the heart rate measuring pads we mentioned above. The console is slightly minimalistic, without any fancy additions, tablet holders, or iPad support. But it still features enough elements and options to serve its purpose excellently.
The decently sized, 5 inch LCD screen is very easy to read, and features all the important information that you’d want to know.
The console also comes with several speed choices – you can choose from nine different speeds for a bigger challenge. This is chosen with a simple touch.
There is also the option of twelve different exercise programmes. Each one provides you with a different challenge and a new, refreshing experience. Simply press the corresponding button and make your choice. The treadmill will automatically adapt.
Also, these different challenges are represented by unique little graphs – from the simpler “effort & rest” exercises, to the more complex “gauntlet” type challenges. But the variety is a welcome addition. You can get a new experience each day.
Motor and Belt
It is a reliable, 2.25 horse power XTerra motor, which provides enough torque and speed for an average running treadmill. You won’t feel the need for more.
What’s best about this motor is the fact that it is very quiet. And with the added fact that it is encased in the protective plastic casing at the front of the running deck, you can rest assured that the noises and vibrations will be non existent. This is one smooth ride.
But perhaps the best part of this treadmill lies in its fantastic belt. The running deck is sufficiently wide, and in a way unique.
The belt is made of durable rubber material, and is textured to improve the grip of the user.
Neat sky blue strips at the sides are a great design element, allowing the users to always be on guard as the where they are stepping.
And as we mentioned, you have enough space added with the side strips – you can safely step to the sides when you want to stop running, without waiting for the motor to come to a stop.
Assembly and Maintenance
Moreover, the assembly of the TR150 is not too complex, and is generally a straightforward task. With just a Allan’s head wrench, and a general hex wrench, you can go about the assembly of this piece of equipment.
In just an hour or two the task should be done, largely due to the fact that most of it comes previously assembled. And you also get the perfectly presented assembly instructions – which are clear and concise, greatly easing the whole process.
And when it comes to maintenance, no need to worry. The general treadmill maintenance rules apply here as well. Simply lubricate as needed, and regularly after the first year of use. An occasional tightening of the screws and a general check up wouldn’t be bad either.
But even so, you don’t have to fuss about it. The TR150 is built to last, and built to
In the market of motorized treadmills, the choice can often be very limited. Some treadmills are either overpriced or very advanced, while others are simplistic and inefficient.
Finding the middle ground was always a challenge for us. But XTERRA reminded us that the balanced and straightforward treadmills are often the way to go.
Their TR150 has everything you might need, and it is without a doubt a reliable and effective piece of equipment. Simple, sturdy, and with all the basic design elements refined to the point of perfection, we can guarantee that this treadmill will satisfy even the most demanding runners.
And once you get to experience its natural, cushioned running deck, you’ll be certain that this is one reliable motorized treadmill. Not to mention the balanced and affordable price tag. This is a definite recommendation!
